Dark hangar testing to DO-275

Provision of necessary test equipment

Support to customer during test

RTCA/DO-275 requires that aircraft cockpits upgraded to NVG compatibility should be subject to NVG ground testing before being cleared for flight.

Conditions and methods for this testing are all defined in the standard.

Briefly, the technique is to set up the aircraft in a dark hangar, sealed against all external light sources. A special resolution chart is set up at a specific distance from the pilot, and a suitable low level light source is used to illuminate the display. Cockpit light sources are then switched on one by one and the resolution chart is observed through NVGs to check for any degradation in visibility. Unacceptable glare and reflections from cockpit transparencies are also evaluated.

Consolite can support customers with provision of the necessary equipment and expertise to perform this testing.
